Closing the Digital GAP Happy Holidays

As the year comes to a close, the Closing the Digital GAP (CTDG) project looks back on a period marked by collaboration, learning, and meaningful impact. Co-funded by the European Union through the Erasmus+ programme, this year has been an important step forward in our shared mission to improve digital inclusion and employability, particularly for women facing barriers to accessing the technology sector.

Impact in the Netherlands - Expanding Career Opportunities for women through Zwarte vrouwen voor Technologie
We are happy to end the year with positive results. This year we started Closing the Digital GAP and we are happy to share the impact we made. In November 2025 we ended the second cycle of intensive and indepth workshops for the second group participants. A total of 20 women participated in the two cycles of workshops. Both groups of participants follow the workshops Cybersecurity awareness, LinkedIn Marketing, CV Building and Search Engine Skills, Negotiating Salary and Assignments, Programming, Data Analysis in Excel, AI Content Marketing and No-code website building in WordPress.

The general conclusion from the participants' feedback is that they appreciate the strong content of the workshops, the practical work (in pairs), and the examples provided by the instructors. Furthermore, a large number of participants indicated they would like to learn more about the various topics covered in the workshops. There is a need for follow-up workshops or training courses. We consider this a positive sign.

Participants will continue their work motivated in various ways, applying their new knowledge and skills in a variety of ways:

  • To improve their performance in their current roles.
  • By pursuing a data science degree.
  • By starting their own business as a website builder.
  • By following in other advanced (re-)training programs we have. Like the IT career program for more indepth technical experience and the RELIEF! Mentor & Sponsor program for mentoring, guidance and advice.

Looking Ahead: Growing Our Reach in 2026
We are ready to start the third cycle of workshops on January 9, 2026. Together with our partner Building Bridges we will host an online kick-off on January 5, 2026. This upcoming cycle will focus on a diverse group of women, with diverse backgrounds. This third cycle reflects our commitment to expanding our impact and support single mothers, underpaid women, unemployed women, women seeking alternative work opportunities, students and women looking to upgrade their digital skills, and women seeking a career in tech.

Impact in Spain: Learning That Matters
In Spain, two full workshop cycles were successfully delivered throughout the year, reaching a total of 24 participants. These workshops covered the core CTDG modules on digital skills, personal development, and basic technical competencies, offering participants a holistic and practical learning experience. Feedback from participants highlighted the relevance, usefulness, and applicability of the content, with Inmany noting that the workshops directly supported their current professional and personal goals, from improving employability to gaining confidence in digital environments.

The first group of participants was recruited through the existing community of Asociación Building Bridges / YesEuropa, allowing us to build on long-standing relationships and trust. The second group, however, represented a particularly meaningful milestone: thanks to our collaboration with Asociación Wanawake and Fundación Solidaridad Amaranta, the CTDG workshops reached women in situations of social vulnerability, aligning strongly with the project’s inclusion-driven objectives.

Looking Ahead: Growing Our Reach in 2026
As we move into the new year, Spain is already preparing for a third delivery of the CTDG workshops, this time in collaboration with Asociación Imagina Más. This upcoming cycle will focus on migrant women from diverse backgrounds, continuing our efforts to support employability, digital confidence, and access to opportunities in the tech sector. This next phase reflects our commitment to expanding impact while adapting to the needs of different communities.

Closing the Year with Gratitude
As we celebrate the end of the year, we do so with gratitude for our partners, our participants, and the shared belief that digital and technical skills can be a powerful tool for inclusion and empowerment. The results achieved so far reaffirm the importance of collaboration across borders and organisations, and we look forward to continuing this journey together in the year ahead.

From all of us involved in Closing the Digital GAP, we wish you a warm holiday season and an inspiring start to the new year.

The CTDG project (Closing the Digital Gap) is a groundbreaking initiative aimed at increasing women’s inclusion in Spain’s rapidly growing tech sector. In a country where gender disparity in tech remains a significant challenge, this project focuses on providing free tech training to women, especially those at risk of social exclusion due to factors like economic hardship, low educational background, or cultural barriers. By equipping these women with digital skills, we’re opening doors to greater employment opportunities and fostering a more diverse, inclusive workforce.

The tech industry in Spain is thriving, with the tech job market expected to grow by more than 50% over the next decade. Despite this growth, women remain underrepresented in many tech roles, making it essential to create programs that actively address these gaps. By offering accessible and free tech training, the CTDG project ensures that women, especially from marginalized communities, can participate in and benefit from the booming digital economy. It’s not just about closing a skills gap—it’s about ensuring that the voices of all women are heard and represented in the future of work.

In September 2025, we are excited to launch the Spanish workshops as part of the CTDG project. This marks a key milestone as we aim to provide hands-on training to women across Spain, empowering them with digital and tech skills for a brighter future. As we reflect on the progress made by our Dutch counterparts, ZVTT, who have successfully completed their first workshop cycle, we are motivated by their achievements and eager to deliver impactful results here in Spain. The expectation is clear: these workshops will serve as a powerful tool for creating lasting change and breaking down barriers for women in the tech sector.

Madrid — The Building Bridges / YesEuropa Association, together with its project partner Zwarte Vrouwen voor Technologie (ZVVT), announces a new collaboration with Wanawake Mujer Association and the Fundación Solidaridad Amaranta (FSA) to deliver a series of workshops as part of the Closing the Digital GAP project, co-funded by the European Union through the Erasmus+ programme.

This initiative aims to bring women in vulnerable situations closer to the ICT labour market, through a training programme structured around three key modules: employability, personal branding, and basic web design tools. Over the course of three weeks, between 15 and 20 women will take part in a hands-on learning experience that combines practical training and personalised tutoring, designed to enhance their employment opportunities in the digital sector.

The programme is framed within the social and labour inclusion project for women survivors of trafficking for exploitation purposes, jointly developed by Wanawake and FSA.

Through this alliance, Building Bridges, ZVVT, Wanawake Mujer, and FSA reaffirm their joint commitment to digital inclusion, equal opportunities, and the empowerment of women from diverse social backgrounds. This collaboration represents another step toward reducing the gender digital divide and promoting more equitable participation in the technology sector.

We're excited to announce that we've completed the first round of the Closing the Digital GAP upskilling program in the Netherlands. Eleven enthusiastic participants gained essential digital and technical skills and worked on their personal development. For many, this program marked their first steps into the world of digital work, the technology industry and professional development. Each session brought them closer to the program's core mission: closing the digital gap and empowering talent with practical, future-proof knowledge to improve their current work or transform it into a job in IT.

The tech industry in Spain and the Netherlands is thriving, with the tech job market expected to grow by more than 50% over the next decade. Despite this growth, women remain underrepresented in many tech roles, making it essential to create programs that actively address these gaps. In May the workshop series has started with the workshop Cybersecurity Awareness, led by our project lead Miljorha Martin, an essential introduction to navigating the digital world safely. In an age where phishing, data breaches, and online fraud are increasingly common, participants learned how to protect their personal and professional information. The workshop made it clear that cybersecurity isn’t just for IT specialists it’s for anyone engaging with digital tools and spaces.

Next came the LinkedIn Marketing workshop, where participants explored how to stand out in the digital job market. With practical guidance on personal branding, networking, and understanding the platform’s algorithm, they learned how to leverage LinkedIn as a powerful professional tool. Participants gained confidence in crafting a strong online presence and learned how to attract new opportunities.

The CV Building and Search Engine Skills session followed, led by Jo-Anne Snip and Miljorha Martin teaching participants how to build a clear and compelling CV and how to use search engines to find job opportunities that align with their goals. This workshop emphasized that a good CV is only part of the process knowing where to look and how to present yourself online is just as important.

One of the most valuable workshops was Negotiating Salary and Assignments, led by Imane B’Lyou. This session was an eye-opener for many participants. They learned how to recognize and articulate their value, and how to approach negotiation with strategy and confidence. Through examples and interactive exercises, participants discovered that negotiation is not just about boldness, it’s about preparation and clarity.

A key milestone in the program was the Programming workshop, guided by Su-Yen Donk. For many, it was their first real encounter with coding. The hands-on session demystified programming and revealed that it can be both logical and creative. Participants saw that once you take the first step, tech becomes approachable and learnable, regardless of background.

The Data Analysis in Excel session, held at the Ondernemerswinkel, became an unexpected favourite. Many participants admitted they had always thought data analysis was too difficult or not for them. But under the guidance of Marianne Dorder-Servet and Miljorha Martin, they discovered that Excel is a user-friendly tool for identifying trends and gaining insights from data. The workshop gave them the confidence to analyze and interpret data in a practical way.

The workshop, AI Content Marketing, again led by Sharesca Clara, introduced participants to AI tools like ChatGPT. They explored how to use AI to enhance content creation. Making it more efficient without losing authenticity. Participants learned that AI can be a creative partner, helping them structure, write, and plan content that aligns with their personal or professional goals.

The final workshop No-code website building in WordPress led y Marianne Dorder-Servet and Deborah Sylvester focused on building websites without too much coding. We close this first cycle with the same enthusiasm and skillset as we started.

Each workshop in this series served as a building block in the development of CTDG participants. From visibility to security, from data to expression, from strategy to innovation. They learned that they are not only capable of navigating the digital world but also of actively shaping their role within it.

The coaches Shirley Herts, Saskia Sambo-Kingsale and Jane Echteld have done a phenomenal job with guiding the Dutch CTDG talents throughout the three months with the personal coaching sessions.

It was an amazing start and a basis to move on!
